At The Aliver Foundation, we believe the best thing to teach children is to call 9-1-1 in an emergency. We strive to make kids feel comfortable doing so and facilitate first responder interactions with our youngest community members at every event we hold. We’ve created a simple coloring page for children to help them remember that when they call 9-1-1, the helpers will come quickly.
We also love to chat with kids about the importance of a good night’s sleep, eating well, and physical activity. We know that some children are scared of going to the doctor, so we have incorporated a stethoscope craft into our events for them to see how cool it can be to listen to someone’s heart. This is a fun activity utilizing a toilet paper tube or paper towel tube cut in half. Please note that while a homemade stethoscope is a fun and educational tool, it is obviously not a substitute for a real medical stethoscope used by healthcare professionals.
We’re in the process of developing this page. Please feel free to email your suggestions for inclusion to: resources@thealiverfoundation.org.
